Summer Academy Descriptions

SUA Summer Academy 2017

  • All Summer Academy Programs are available on a first come, first served basis.  Please register early!
  • Refunds will only be issued in the event that the camp is canceled due to lack of enrollment.
  • Students will be officially registered for the camp when they have received an email confirmation from Saint Ursula Academy Admissions Office
  • Register for a morning and afternoon session, if you wish!  A common dining area will be available for students who bring a packed lunch. 
  • All camp participants will receive a Saint Ursula Academy t-shirt!
  • The fee for camps is $90.

DramaRama: DramaRama is a camp that is perfect for aspiring performers of any level. The week-long experience will begin by introducing students to the process of acting through warm up exercises and theatrical improvisation games. As the week progresses students will be introduced to how to prepare a song through vocal warm-ups and musical techniques. Next students will learn how to approach musical theatre dance through stretches, fun dance games and skill building. Finally, students will begin creating a character on stage through more improvisation games and work with a scripted piece of theatre. One session is available (9am – 11:30 am). Maximum of 25 students. 

 
Grasp the Guitar: This camp will focus on learning to read music and learning notes on the guitar. By the end of the week, students will be playing in ensembles with other guitarists. We will also work on learning chords and playing pop songs. All materials, including use of a guitar, will be provided for the week. Morning session and afternoon sessions are available (8:30 am – 11:30 am or 12:00pm-3:00pm). Maximum of 9 students per session. 
 
 
Artistic Exploration: Delve into art this summer inspired by works at the Cincinnati Art Museum and contemporary art techniques. Each day, students will learn about different aspects of the visual arts through interactive projects, art making activities, and more. Participants will explore their creativity through painting, printmaking, collage, drawing, photography, sculpture and mixed media based classes. Students will also take a field trip to the Cincinnati Art Museum. The camp will help to enhance imagination, creativity, and discipline, problem solving skills, cultural and historical awareness, art appreciation and more. Morning and afternoon sessions are available (8:30 am – 11:30 am or 12 pm – 3 pm). Maximum of 12 students per session.
 
High School Placement Test Preparation Course: This course, for girls entering the 8th grade, will allow them to learn test-taking tips, review math and language content of the HSPT, familiarize themselves with the test format, increase confidence and practice taking the HSPT. This session is geared towards getting students ready to take the HSPT test, it does not teach the material that they should know by the test date (November 18, 2017). The camp will include all of the materials needed for the course, including the book.  One session available (8:30 am – 11:30 am). Maximum of 40 students.
 
Cooking with Class: Want to learn to slice and dice like a chef? Do you like to eat? Do you enjoy the idea of creating something from what seems like nothing? Then, this cooking camp is for YOU! We will learn how to make yummy desserts, delicious salsas, pasta dishes and so much more! Each day will include education, cooking, eating and discussion. We will discuss essential kitchen tools and skills, as well as learn about the science behind cooking. Bon appétit! Morning and afternoon sessions are available (8:30 am – 11 am or 12 pm – 2:30 pm). Maximum of 15 students per session. BOTH SESSIONS SOLD OUT!
 
 Robotics The robotics camp is a hands-on camp where you will build, design and program robots. In the camp, we will explore different types of robots with "Robot of the Day", learn how basic electronics work, and some of the secrets of programming your robots to explore the world.  Each day will offer a number of challenges where you can succeed by using your creativity while working at your own pace. Build robots from junk, program robots to talk, avoid obstacles, and sneak around in the dark. Explore the growing world of robotics and see how fun it can be.  Morning or afternoon sessions are available (9 am – 11:30 am and 12 – 2:30 pm).  Maximum of 12 students per session.

Future Fashionistas:  Do you love glitter and glamour? Are amazing accessories a must? Do you love all that sparkles and shines? If so, then put your personal style into action this week and join us for fashionable fun, creative (and wearable) projects, colorful jewelry making, and lots more! All campers will need scissors, a few magazines that can be cut up, an old t-shirt which can be cut into pieces, and a pair of cheap "dollar store" flip-flops.  One session is available (9am – 11:30 am).  Maximum of 15 students.  

 
 
 
Write Away! This camp will encourage and challenge the young writer to discover and develop her creativity, find her unique writing voice, and express her individual vision! Each day will be devoted to a different type of creative writing, and every session will include time for hands-on writing activities. Day one will begin with brainstorming exercises to inspire creativity, days two through four will explore different forms of creative writing, and day five will be a celebration of student writing in which family and friends are invited to hear their young writer’s works in progress. Morning and afternoon sessions are available (9 am – 11:30 am or 12:00 pm – 2:30 pm). Maximum of 12 students.
 

Fit & Fabulous! This special camp focuses on teen health and wellness. We will focus on the mind, body and overall well-being! Students will take various fitness classes like barre, yoga, and Zumba, take nature walks, daily journal and do fun and relaxing mindful activities like crafting and coloring. Girls will make healthy snacks in our camp to share and enjoy with one another and discuss future goal-setting for high school and beyond! All campers will need to bring a journal and coloring materials (markers/colored pencils). One session is available (9am – 11:30 am). Maximum of 15 students.
