Congratulations to SUA's National Merit Semifinalists

National Merit Semifinalists

Saint Ursula Academy is proud to announce its National Merit Semifinalists for 2023-2024. This year, four SUA students are among those announced as semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®). They are:
Madelyn Edmondson of Clifton
Natalie Gockerman of Indian Hill
Rachel Reyering of Pleasant Ridge
Grayson Rohmiller of White Oak

These academically talented high school seniors are among more than 16,000 Semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program nationwide. They have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring.

We are also proud to announce a National Merit Commended Student"
Rachel Roell of Springfield Twp.

“We are so proud of these students who have shown exceptional academic ability,” said Saint Ursula Academy Principal Kathy Restle. “We know that these results paired with their hard work in the challenging college-preparatory curriculum they receive at Saint Ursula will prepare them for success in rigorous college studies in whatever field they choose.”

To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title. National Merit Commended students are recognized for scoring in the top 5% of U.S. high school seniors on the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test.

NMSC, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 340 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.

Semifinalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program entered the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) as juniors, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.
