SUA Engages Parents with Parent Speaker Series

Saint Ursula Academy is committed to educating the whole person. That means beyond courses and programming for its 650 girls, the school also engages parents in many ways, including a Parent Speaker Series that features guest speakers and topics that are timely and relevant to the high school years.

The Parent Speaker Series began several years ago when the SUA Counseling Department suggested providing additional resources for parents to help them support their daughters. Parents loved the idea of learning more about issues that affect their daughters and engaging with experts in those areas. With the onset of the COVID era, most of the recent Parent Speaker Series sessions have been virtual, giving Saint Ursula an opportunity to present top experts in their fields from all over the nation.

The next SUA Virtual Parent Speaker Series features New York Times bestselling author of seven books, journalist and speaker Harlan Cohen via ZOOM on Thursday, January 27 at 7:00 p.m.  Mr. Cohen will be sharing his wisdom and refreshing insights on 5 Simple Rules for Navigating High School, College, and Life.   REGISTER

Last fall, SUA invited parents to hear Leslie Speidel of The Career Exploration Company, who discussed how to help students understand several aspects related to career interest and exploration including learning about careers in high school, discovering one's purpose, the world of work for our next generation, tips for parents, and more!

Other Series topics have dealt with everything from mental health, to what colleges are looking for, and understanding social media.

The next Parent Speaker Series will offer Screenagers- Next Chapter: Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience and is about helping young people thrive in our screen and stress-filled world.
