Saint Ursula Academy Alumna Earns Air Force Scholarship

Cincinnati, Ohio – October 10, 2016 - Saint Ursula Academy Aluma Sydney Gleckler ’16 of Montgomery was awarded a 4-Year, Type 1 Air Force ROTC “Commander’s Scholarship” based on “a competitive and highly selective basis as a result of meritorious achievement in academic studies and extracurricular activities, and for demonstrating a desire to serve in the United States Air Force.”

During her senior year at Saint Ursula, Sydney was named one of 15,000 high school students competing for this prestigious award. She had to demonstrate academic excellence throughout her final year of high school, pass a physical fitness test, demonstrate leadership ability, participate in community service, and interview with the Commander of the Air Force ROTC Detachment 665 at the University of Cincinnati. As a result of this strenuous application process, Sydney was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Cincinnati. This scholarship not only covers tuition, but also housing, textbooks, and monthly stipends while she is enrolled.

Sydney and her parents are grateful for the foundation that Saint Ursula provided for her to achieve this success.

“We know SUA had a huge impact on Sydney throughout her 4 years. She made great friendships with the teachers who helped mentor her and mold her into the successful young lady she is today, “said Sydney’s mom, Shannon Gleckler.

Sydney is currently a freshman at the University of Cincinnati. After completing a degree in Computer Engineering she will be commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.
