SUA Teacher Becomes the Student at Humanities Development Program in NYC

Ludke at Liberty Bell
Saint Ursula Academy Social Studies Teacher Lexi Ludke has some new strategies and ideas for her students after she was chosen to participate in a summer humanities program held in New York City.

Ludke participated in the National Endowment for Humanities (NEH) Institute 2023: Preparing for America at 250. She learned about Women's involvement in the American Revolution and worked with other teachers from across the country to create lessons to prepare Americans for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In addition, the program engaged participants in dialogue with leaders in the field, primary source research, and meaningful curriculum projects to examine the centrality of women's roles in the foundation of the United States.

The New York Historical Society led the program which lasted two weeks in New York City and the surrounding areas.

Ms. Ludke said about her experience, “During the program, I learned from other teachers around the country, historians, and museum institutes.  Another bonus to the program was the ability to travel down to Philadelphia.”

Ludke looks forward to sharing what she learned with her students and colleagues as the nation plans ahead for 2026, when we celebrate USA’s 250th birthday.
