CINCINNATI, OH  (March 25, 2024)  - Students of Saint Ursula Academy had an impactful experience as they traveled with several classmates to the United Nations in New York City.

The students (Anna Garver, Mia Mancini, Lauren Crowley, Emily Horton, Lia Stanton, Lucia Moschandreas, Rachael Spieser, Mary Castellini, Nora Fischesser, and Olivia Schmidt), chaperoned by Ms. Rachel Kemper and Ms. Lisa Caito, were a part of the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). The CSW is the “principal global intergovernmental body exclusivity dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women.” Every year, various government officials, policymakers, advocates, and activists from around the world convene at the UN headquarters to discuss global standards and policies. Those who attend focus on advocating for women’s rights and monitor the progress toward gender equality worldwide in order to develop recommendations for action.

Emily Horton ’25 and Olivia Schmidt ’26 participated in a panel discussion at one of the parallel events, Beijing+30 - Girl’s perspective: How Far Have We Come?  Their portion of the discussion focused on the disparity in financial literacy from teenage boys to teenage girls. Both Emily and Olivia attended the event last year and were chosen to participate in this parallel event that was hosted by The Grail which is “a global community of women from different cultures, social backgrounds and generations that is committed to empowering women to work for ‘world transformation’ by addressing critical issues that impact girls and women.”

Saint Ursula Academy students are leading by example. They are focusing on issues that are important to them and using their voice to make a positive impact in the world.
