Saint Ursula Academy student Brooke Hunstad '22 was selected to take part in an upcoming event honoring local artists. Saint Ursula art teacher Kurt Nicaise nominated Hunstad for the inaugural Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center (IJPC) Youth Justice Award for a collage she created in her Art II class titled "Black Lives Matter.”
Brooke will receive her award at the 2021 Annual Gathering of the Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center, The Art of Justice: Creative Visions for Peace on November 11, 2021. The goal of the event is to “showcase local artists whose visual and performance pieces share a vision for peace that will inspire all those in Greater Cincinnati seeking a just society.”
When asked about Brooke’s artwork and this award, Mr. Nicaise answered, “Brooke worked diligently to achieve her personal vision, which calls attention to the Black Lives Matter movement and its inherent demand for justice. Her collage exhibits power, passion, and determination coming together in an exquisite composition.”
In addition to this local award, Brooke's collage was also recognized in the New York Times, Coming of Age in 2020 competition last year.
