SUA Kicks Off Annual Parent Speaker Series with University Presidents

Dr. Williams and Father Graham

Education at Saint Ursula Academy is not just for the students. The school kicked off its first SUA Parent Speaker Series event of the year with a presentation and Q&A session with two distinguished guests; Xavier University President Father Michael Graham and Dr. James Williams, President of Mount St. Joseph University. The topic was Planning Forward: Is Your Daughter Ready for Today's College Culture?

“Saint Ursula sees our parents as partners in educating our students,” said Dr. Mari Thomas, Saint Ursula Academy Principal. “With our talented and engaged Counseling Department, we host several events each year to help parents learn about important issues that can help them as parents of teenage girls, can help them support their daughters, and prepare for the college search and beyond.”

The discussion at this event was designed to help parents and students understand the social-emotional skills and proficiencies that colleges and universities expect high school students to have in order to thrive in a diverse and inclusive college community.  The speakers each shared a personal story, then addressed topics from diversity and cultural inclusion, to advice about social media, how to build student confidence, balance and wellness, and many other issues.

We are so grateful to Fr. Graham and Dr. Williams for sharing their time and expertise with SUA families,” said Dr. Thomas. “Those in attendance loved the inspiring stories and meaningful advice as SUA works to educate girls who are thinkers, leaders, nurturers, and prophets committed to building a better world.”
