Congratulations to the SUA Interalliance/SUAT team on winning First Place overall in the Showcase Project at the 2019 TechOlympics!
Their project called, “Level Up Self Defense,” impressed the judges with its comprehensive, clear message and an outstanding presentation on self-defense.
The students created the concept for a bulldog mascot key ring for a self-defense tool. They marketed it as an awareness reminder for self-defense. They surveyed students and hosted two guest speakers at school to educate the Saint Ursula community on safety and awareness.
Then, the SUA team designed, 3-D printed, marketed, and sold these keyrings at lunch and made close to $200 during a short time. They donated the proceeds to a non-profit charity called Kick Back Bath Co., which was started by an SUA graduate who was sexually assaulted in college. She wanted to raise money and awareness to provide women with self-defense classes and empower them to feel safe.
The students presented their research, actions and results at the TechOlympics and were judged on impact and viability, originality, creativity, and the full presentation.
Members who participated were: Lilly Stark, Lindsey Weber, Arianna Dziadkowiec, Julia Lucas, Olivia DeStefano, Carly Bisher, Maggie Mullaney, Madelyn Kleeman, Olivia Egbers and Julia Lucas.
Congratulations to these students who are showing how a smart application of technology can provide real solutions to a variety of issues.
