Saint Ursula Academy Celebrates International Women's Day

Cincinnati, Ohio, April 22, 2016 – For more than 100 years, Saint Ursula Academy has educated young ladies to become strong women of faith, integrity, and courage. This commitment was celebrated and renewed on International Women’s Day on March 8.

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

At Saint Ursula Academy, students attended a celebration of women in the form of an assembly focusing on Economic Parity. Assia M. Johnson, Public Relations and Social Media Coordinator at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and Carla Walker of Think BIG Strategies spoke to students about reaching their full potential and creating change in the world.

Rosemarie Bingham ’18 from Miami Township is appreciative that Saint Ursula Academy hosts such events and encourages students to create their own path to success. “I think International Women’s Day is very empowering because it allows us to celebrate how far women have come. Our society seems to want to pigeonhole women in specific areas, jobs, activities, etc. but on this day, we are encouraged to step out of our comfort zone and follow our dreams no matter what anyone else thinks.”

St. Ursula Academy is a Catholic, college-preparatory, secondary school for young women known for academic excellence and rich tradition. St. Ursula welcomes students from more than 70 grade schools in the Greater Cincinnati area. In 2002 the Academy was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School. The campus, located at 1339 E. McMillan Street in East Walnut Hills has been the home of St. Ursula Academy and Convent since 1910. The Class of 2015 earned college scholarships totaling more than $19-million.
