SUA's Blome '19 Named Finalist in New York Times Poetry Contest

June 2017- Cincinnati, OH - Congratulations to Saint Ursula Academy’s Molly Blome ’19 who was named a finalist in the Found Poem Contest sponsored by the New York Times, The Learning Network.

Molly’s poem, titled “She was a Teenager,” was selected as a finalist from a total of 2,360 teenagers who entered the eighth annual Found Poem Contest, more than double the number of entries in 2016.

To enter, students chose words and phrases from any New York Times article, then created poetry from them. As we note year after year, the work that stands out always does two things well: It shows a real love of, and care with, language, and it honors the Times source material in interesting ways.

Top poems covered subjects from love and loneliness to Walt Whitman and Beyoncé, trees and $10 bills, the cosmos and “Fearless Girl” to name a few.
