Saint Ursula Academy Student Earns Perfect Score on the ACT

Cincinnati, Ohio – May 23, 2017 - Saint Ursula Academy is proud to announce that junior Brittany Shine of Hyde Park earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT.

Brittany, who has challenged herself by taking honors courses in her favorite subjects, science and math, says that her teachers prepared her most for the ACT by challenging her to think in new ways.

“Through these courses, I have learned to think outside the box and creatively solve problems,” Shine said.

Next year, she plans to take AP Calculus, Physics, and Engineering. To explore these subjects outside the classroom, Brittany participates in INTERalliance and Science Olympiad at Saint Ursula.

As a student in Saint Ursula’s Educational Services program for students with learning disabilities, Brittany developed learning and test-taking strategies that worked best for her.

Melissa Lea, an ES faculty member, is impressed especially by Brittany’s work ethic and intellect.

“She is not just interested in knowing the answer. Brittany wants to understand the reasons behind the answer. She is intellectually curious alongside being hardworking and intelligent,” Lea said.

Of the ES program, Brittany stated that it has helped her realize her academic potential.

“This has helped me to understand that I am capable of doing anything I set my mind to-I might have to get there a little differently than someone else, but I am confident that I will get there in the end.”

Just as dedicated to her co-curriculars as her academics, Brittany plays tennis for Saint Ursula and is a leader in the photography club. As a Saint Ursula
Ambassador, leader of Students for Advancement and peer tutor, Brittany is a leader in her school community. She also spends time volunteering at the Walnut Hills soup kitchen, has participated in Saint Ursula’s Appalachia mission trip, and plans to attend the Saint Vincent de Paul Urban Plunge mission trip this summer.

A potential engineering major, Brittany wants to focus in chemistry or biomedical engineering and even pursue a second major or minor in business. Saint Ursula congratulates Brittany on this achievement and is eager to hear her future plans.
