Saint Ursula Students Vote in Mock Election

Saint Ursula Students Vote in Mock Election

Most Saint Ursula students are not old enough to vote in the general election, but all of them are getting the chance to participate in the process via a Mock Election.

Social Studies teacher Marti Butz and senior Elena Helmers Wegman '15 prepared a google survey the mimics the current election ballot, giving all students faculty and staff the option to vote in SUA's electronic polls. The ballot includes State and Local Officials and Issues for the precinct where Saint Ursula is located.

The online mock "polls" opened at 6:30 a.m. and remain open until 7:30 p.m. The results of the mock election will be shared with everyone in the school to compare the SUA results to the actual election results.

Students who practice democracy in action by voting in mock elections in their classroom learn the history of one of the the most important rights in our constitution. Students who participate in mock elections learn about the service and sacrifice made throughout history that made it possible for every citizen to have the right and responsibility to practice voting.

Students are taught to study and learn about the candidates and their debated issues before casting their votes.
