St. Ursula Academy Swimmers Dominate Coaches Classic Invitational


Cincinnati, Ohio, January 19, 2014 – The St. Ursula Academy Bulldog Swim and Dive Teams dominated the Coaches Classic Invitational, winning the girls’ team trophy and setting a new school record in the 400 free relay, among many other awards.

The Coaches Classic is the nation’s largest high school invitational. An estimated 100 schools were represented, including 2,900 swimmers and 160 divers. 40 students from St. Ursula Academy participated in various events.

The highlights of the weekend included the following:

For Saturday Night Finals only the top 16 from all the morning swims competed and the Bulldogs continued their dominance.

· 400 Medley Relay: (Hannah Foster, Josie Grote, Marissa DelGado, Ashley Voelkerding) placed 1st , only 1 second off the meet record.

· 200 Free: Josie Grote finished 2nd, Hannah Foster 4th, Molly Zilch, 7th, Katie Kerr 8th.

· 400 Individual Medley: Marissa DelGado finished 7th.

· 50 Free: Ashley Voelkerding finished 5th.

· 100 Fly: Ashley Voelkerding finished 5th and Marissa DelGado finished 7th.

· 100 Back: Hannah Foster finished 6th.

· 200 Breast: Josie Grote finished 3rd.

· 500 Free: Molly Zilch finished 6th, Anna DelGado 10th , Katie Kerr11th, Kendyl Ferrara 16th.

· 200 Free Relay: (Hannah Foster, Ashley Voelkerding, Anna DelGado and Josie Grote finished 2nd.

Sunday Finals:

· 200 Medley Relay: (Hannah Foster, Josie Grote, Marissa DelGado, Ashley Voelkerding) placed 1st.

· 200 Ind. Medley: Josie Grote finished 1st, Marissa DelGado 5th, Anna DelGado 13th.

· 100 Free: Hannah Foster finished 3rd, Ashley Voelkerding 4th, Molly Zilch 15th.

· 200 Fly: Marissa DelGado finished 3rd.

· 100 Breast: Josie Grote finished 2nd.

· 200 Back: Hannah Foster finished 5th.

· 1650 Free: Katie Kerr finished 7th, Kendyl Ferrara 10th, Katie Bissmeyer 31st.

· 400 Free Relay: Josie Grote, Ashley Voelkerding, Molly Zilch and Hannah Foster finished 1st.

· 3 meter diving: Audrey Capannari finished 11th.

The Bulldogs earned the girls’ team trophy with a final overall score of 551 points. Mason finished second with a score of 347 and Ursuline finished third with a score of 309.
