Saint Ursula Academy Seniors Named National Achievement Scholarship Outstanding Participants

Cincinnati, Ohio, October 1, 2013 – St. Ursula Academy is proud to announce that two seniors are among 3,100 Black American students across the nation to be recognized this year by the National Achievement Scholarship Program, sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Program.

The National Achievement Scholarship Program named Veronica Takougang of West Chester and Brittney Williams of Springfield Twp. as National Achievement Semifinalists for the 2013-2014 school year. They now have the opportunity to compete for the Achievement Scholarship® awards in the spring of 2014.

Veronica and Brittney scored in the top 3% of more than 160,000 African American students who entered the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) as Juniors. A roster of these students’ names, high schools, and tentative college major choices is being sent to about 1,500 colleges and universities.

Also recognized by the National Merit Corporation this year are Clare Rahner of Mt. Washington, Semifinalist, and Kenzie Corbin of Anderson Twp., Commended Student. In the past 8 years, and average of 12% of St. Ursula seniors have received recognition from the National Merit, National Achievement and the National Hispanic Scholarship Programs. St. Ursula Academy is a Catholic, college-preparatory, secondary school for young women known for academic excellence and rich tradition. St. Ursula welcomes students from more than 70 grade schools in the Greater Cincinnati area. In 2002 the Academy was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School. The campus, located at 1339 E. McMillan Street in East Walnut Hills has been the home of St. Ursula Academy and Convent since 1910. 87% of the class of 2013 earned college scholarships totaling more than $20-million.
