Saint Ursula Academy Names New Head Varsity Soccer Coach: Terrence “Mac” Garrigan

Cincinnati, Ohio, April 14, 2014 – Saint Ursula Academy is proud to announce Terrence “Mac” Garrigan as the new Head Varsity Soccer Coach. Garrigan is a Cincinnati native with a great deal of playing, coaching and athletic training experience. He will take over the highly ranked St. Ursula Bulldogs varsity team for the 2014 competitive season.

Garrigan has extensive soccer experience and is looking forward to bringing that to the Bulldogs team.

As a player, he was a four year starter at both Anderson High School and Xavier University and is now a proud inductee in the Xavier University Soccer Hall of Fame. Garrigan went on to play professionally for two years in the American Soccer League before entering the University of Cincinnati Law School. He continued to play soccer for Cincinnati Kolping for many years after law school.

He has deep experience in coaching too! Garrigan began coaching as an assistant with the men’s soccer program and Xavier University. He has also coached girls at Walnut Hills High School and more recently he coached boys at Indian Hill High School.

Coach Garrigan says he can’t wait to start working with the SUA student athletes this summer. “I consider the St. Ursula Academy soccer program to be one of the best in the country and am really looking forward to working with the girls on a successful first season together.”

He clarifies that a successful season doesn’t just mean winning games. “Success means camaraderie, team work, having fun, and each player really enjoying the sport. That kind of culture fosters hard work and athletes working together to give their all each week– that’s what success looks like to me.”

He credits a special soccer mentor for much of his soccer success. “Much of the credit for both my soccer playing and coaching abilities goes to Ohio Hall of Fame Coach Giovanni Capurro, a former Italian Olympic soccer team player (’52 Helsinki Olympics), who coached at Xavier University. I played and coached for him for 11 years.”

Please join St. Ursula as we welcome Coach Garrigan to the SUA Bulldogs family.

Coach Garrigan and his wife, Sarah, have four wonderful children; Ben, Maggie, Drake and Grace.
