Saint Ursula Academy's Neibuhr Wins Overture Awards in Theatre

Cincinnati, Ohio, Date, 2016 – Saint Ursula Academy is thrilled to announce senior Erin Niebuhr of Anderson Twp. won first place in the Overture Awards in the theater division! Erin wins a $4,000 scholarship with her 1st place title.

The Overture Awards is a program coordinated by the Cincinnati Arts Association that recognizes, encourages and rewards excellence in the arts among Greater Cincinnati students in grades 9-12. Its mission is to encourage arts education as an integral part of a student’s academic experience and to create an environment that encourages training in, and appreciation of, the arts.

The Overture Awards Competition is the area’s largest solo arts competition and offers awards in six artistic disciplines: creative writing, dance, instrumental music, theatre, visual art, and vocal music. For the 2016 competition, one student in each discipline was awarded the top $4,000 prize. Judges at all levels of the competition are drawn from the professional arts community.

Erin’s love for theater started in grade school, where her music teacher, Adam Gardner, produced musicals. The CCM Preparatory Program and her voice teacher Lisa Ericksen helped her develop the skills she needed. Saint Ursula Academy has been a great place to practice those skills.

"I cannot think of one person more deserving of this award than Erin. Erin has impressed me from the first time I heard her sing three years ago. She is hard working and never settles for less than perfection when it comes to her performances. I think I speak for the entire Theater Department when I say how proud I am of what she has accomplished during her time here at St. Ursula Academy. I cannot wait to see where her career takes her,” said Katherine Jennings, SUA theatre and music educator.

Thanks to her training and support of those around her, Erin has been accepted into her dream program at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music.

St. Ursula Academy is a Catholic, college-preparatory, secondary school for young women known for academic excellence and rich tradition. St. Ursula welcomes students from more than 70 grade schools in the Greater Cincinnati area. In 2002 the Academy was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School. The campus, located at 1339 E. McMillan Street in East Walnut Hills has been the home of St. Ursula Academy and Convent since 1910. The Class of 2015 earned college scholarships totaling more than $19-million.
