Saint Ursula Academy Students Earn 65 Awards at Ohio Junior Classical League State Convention

Cincinnati, Ohio, March 8, 2016 – Twenty-six Saint Ursula Academy students competed in the recent Ohio Junior Classical League (OJCL) State Convention in Columbus, Ohio in February and came home with 65 individual awards.

The OJCL at Saint Ursula Academy is for students who are currently enrolled, or have been enrolled, in Latin classes. The goal of this organization is to promote knowledge of the classics and build a community among students of the classics.

During the competition in February the girls participated in various events and also presented projects that they had spent months preparing. Honors received included awards in doll making, wood burning, poetry, Latin recitation, sculpture, Latin sight reading, tile mosaic, costume, monologue, dramatic interpretation, and various academic testing awards. The girls also won 10 club awards, including awards in scrapbook, banner, service, skit, publication, and commercial. In addition to these awards, the Saint Ursula Academy team also won the spirit competition on Saturday night, and the overall convention spirit award at the final general assembly.

In the final standings, Saint Ursula Academy placed 6th out of 23 schools, which is up two places from last year and their second top 10 finish in over 15 years. The girls worked very hard for this year and it really paid off for them.

St. Ursula Academy is a Catholic, college-preparatory, secondary school for young women known for academic excellence and rich tradition. St. Ursula welcomes students from more than 70 grade schools in the Greater Cincinnati area. In 2002 the Academy was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School. The campus, located at 1339 E. McMillan Street in East Walnut Hills has been the home of St. Ursula Academy and Convent since 1910. The Class of 2015 earned college scholarships totaling more than $19-million.
