St. Ursula Academy Announces National Merit Students for 2012

Cincinnati, Ohio, November 2, 2011 – St. Ursula Academy is proud to announce that the National Merit Scholarship Corporation recognized 18 St. Ursula Academy seniors for 2011-2012 for their outstanding results on the PSAT exam, taken last October when they were juniors. The recognition includes three semifinalists, two National Achievement Scholars, and 13 Commended Students.

The National Merit Semifinalists are:

These seniors are among 16,000 semifinalists who will have an opportunity to compete next spring for 8,300 Merit Scholarship awards worth $34-million.

The National Achievement Semifinalists are:

These seniors are among 1,600 Black American high school students who now have the opportunity to compete for approximately 800 spring Achievement Scholarship® awards, worth $2.4-million.

The National Merit Commended Students are:

Although they will not continue in the 2010 competition for National Merit Scholarships, the Commended Scholars in the National Merit Scholarship Program placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).

In the past 9 years, approximately12% of St. Ursula Academy seniors (a total of 172 St. Ursula students) have received recognition from the National Merit, National Achievement and the National Hispanic Scholarship Programs.

St. Ursula Academy is a Catholic, college-preparatory, secondary school for young women known for academic excellence and rich tradition. St. Ursula welcomes students from more than 70 grade schools in the Greater Cincinnati area. In 2002 the Academy was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School. McMillan Street in East Walnut Hills has been the home of St. Ursula Academy and Convent since 1910. 93% of the class of 2011 earned college scholarships totaling more than $28.3-million.
