St. Ursula Academy JV field hockey team wins first-ever league title

The St. Ursula Academy junior varsity (JV) field hockey team has recently topped off their undefeated 10-0-2 season by sweeping three games in the 2006 Southwest Ohio Field Hockey League Tournament, which was held on Oct. 15 at Foreman Field in Kettering. This is the first time in the history of the program that the SUA JV field hockey team has gone undefeated.

In pre-season, SUA Bulldogs head coach Patsy Glaser, who has coached the team for the past five years, says that “this was the year to win it all with the talent that we have.  This year SUA kept 24 players, of which 19 were freshmen who have worked very hard since June to reach their goal.”  The team, led by captain Hanna Smith-Conway and co-captains Julie Dalgo and Mariella Grote, set a new school record for number of wins in a season.  Smith-Conway also was the leading scorer with 13 goals for the season, followed by Grote who scored nine goals. The team was assisted by Varsity head coach Derek Aspinall and Coach Nigel Hornsby, both natives of the U.K.  Aspinall joined the SUA team four years ago and has been very instrumental in bring field hockey to a much higher level in the Cincinnati area.
