St. Ursula Academy receives GGCL All-Sports Scarlet Division trophy -

Cincinnati, Ohio – May 16, 2007:   St.Ursula Academy received the 2007 GGCL (Girls’ Greater Cincinnati League) Scarlet Division All-Sports trophy on May 10 at the GGCL Sports Awards banquet at Purcell Marian High School. In addition, senior Kristen Cassady, daughter of David and Kathleen Cassady of Madeira, received the GGCL Huismann Award; and senior Ashley Miller, daughter of Michael and Claire Miller of Anderson Twp. was the St. Ursula nominee for the GGCL Scholar Athlete of the Year. Jeff Branhan of Anderson Twp. was named GGCL Scarlet Division Track & Field Coach of the Year.

Also recognized for their achievements earlier in the year were senior Laura Grace Mezher, daughter of Michael and Kathleen Mezher of Anderson Twp. who was named GGCL Scarlet Division Tennis Player of the Year; Tim Ballinger of West Chester who was named GGCL Scarlet Division Basketball Coach of the Year; and Joe Wilkerson of Columbia Tusculum who was named GGCL Scarlet Division Tennis Coach of the Year.

This year marks the 12th time over the past 15 years that St. Ursula has won the All Sports Award.  From 1993 through 1999 St. Ursula won the Grey Division All Sports Award; in 2000 St. Ursula moved from Grey Division to Scarlet Division and won the All Sports Award in 2000, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007.      


St. Ursula Academy is a Catholic, college-preparatory, secondary school for young women.  In 2002 the academy was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School. The campus, located at 1339 E. McMillan Street in East Walnut Hills has been the home of St. Ursula Academy and Convent since 1910.
