St. Ursula Academy hosts neighborhood store for children to Christmas shop for their families

St. Ursula Academy and several East Walnut Hills businesses provided an opportunity for neighborhood grade-school children to Christmas shop for their families on Dec. 15 in the academy gymnasium convocation center.  The non-profit Caring Corners program was created to give East Walnut Hills children a chance to do something good and be rewarded.  The children had been earning credit coupons by doing good deeds around the community and in their schools during the Christmas season.  Such tasks as cleaning up and giving others a helping hand were a benefit to the businesses, schools and the children as well.  The coupons were redeemable for gifts, which were donated by several East Walnut Hills merchants.

St. Ursula student volunteers helped the children select Christmas gifts for their families; gift-wrapping and refreshments also were provided by several parents and students.

St. Ursula Academy is a Catholic, college-preparatory, secondary school for young women.  In 2002 the academy was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School. The campus, located at 1339 E. McMillan Street in East Walnut Hills has been the home of St. Ursula Academy and Convent since 1910.
