Students learn about social injustice and poverty

St. Ursula Academy students participated in an educational and inspirational social action retreat for high school students on Feb. 22 and 23 in downtown Cincinnati. Organized by CSTAT (Catholic Social Teaching Action Team) and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 12 St. Ursula students were joined by students from Seton, LaSalle, St. Xavier, Bellarmine Chapel and Archbishop McNicholas (26 total students). The purpose of the retreat was to raise awareness of social injustice and poverty in our city. The highlights of the retreat were the students’ visits to the Drop Inn Center, City Gospel Mission and the Salvation Army, where they had dinner and interacted with their clients. They also participated in the Vincentians Home visits where the students had an opportunity to hear the personal stories of people in need and to understand the situations that resulted in their need of food, rental money, utilities, furniture and clothing.
