Student Use of Technology
From the St. Ursula Academy Handbook:
Students are responsible for good behavior on school computer networks
just as they are in a classroom or a school hallway. Communications on
the network are often public in nature. General school rules for
behavior and communications apply.
The network is provided for students to conduct research and
communicate with others. Access to network services is given to students
who agree to act in a considerate and responsible manner. Parental
permission is required. Access is a privilege – not a right. Access
entails responsibility.
All students have an e-mail account
(first_initial_last_name@saintursula.org ie; Mary Smith =
msmith@saintursula.org ) for the purpose of communicating with teachers,
counselors, colleges and obtaining reference materials and conducting
school related business.
St. Ursula Academy provides access to the Internet and the World Wide
Web through Hamilton/Clermont Cooperative Association of Boards of
Education’s (HCCA) computer networks. They have certain Internet safety
measures in place. These include measures to block or filter pictures
that: (a) are obscene, (b) contain child pornography, or (c) when
computers with Internet access are used by minors, are harmful to
minors.
Individual users of the school’s and HCCA’s networks are responsible
for their behavior and communications over those networks. It is
presumed that users will comply with school and HCCA standards and will
honor the agreements they have signed. While St. Ursula Academy makes
every attempt to ensure and monitor the appropriateness of the students’
use of the network, the school does not assume responsibility for a
student’s surreptitious non-acceptable behavior.
Network storage areas may be treated like school lockers. School
administrators may review files and communications to maintain system
integrity and insure that users are using the system responsibly. Users
should not expect that files stored on district servers will always be
private.
Within reason, freedom of speech and access to information will be
honored. During school, teachers will guide students toward appropriate
materials. According to school policy and procedures, the following are
not permitted:
- Sending or displaying offensive messages or pictures

- Harassing, insulting or attacking others
